2019 was a truly Great Year for The Island Men. Let me take this opportunity to highlight some of the accomplishments of our organization.
Our club continues to grow as we are approaching 130 paid memberships. This is great news and as we continue to grow, we will be able to increase our contributions back to our community and neighbors.
We have identified/developed a long term giving strategy to ensure that The Island Men will have the funds to give back to our community and contribute to the overall quality of life on our Island for the future.
We have initiated a long term scholarship program that we will be implementing in 2020. We will be awarding scholarships to 5 individuals each year from our community to assist in their educational efforts.
We have put together a team of members to improve our social media presence, allowing us to more effectively communicate on the internet.
We put smiles on the faces of 1000's of kids, residents and visitors with our excellant Float in the Christmas Parade, and our Beautiful boat in the Christmas Flotilla
We helped keep 1000's of residents and visitors safe during our weekly fireworks displays. The Island Men team worked safety patrol each week throughout the Tourist Season.
We have increased our Social Activities to include Range Day, Poker Night, Ax Throwing, and Port Tour.
Successful fund raisers throughout the year, have allowed us to surpass our fund raising budget. This gave us the opportunity to give even more back to our community. including;
- $6300 computer learning system to the Carolina Beach Elementary School.
- $3500 worth of food to the Help Center to help feed 125 families and neighbors on the Island for the Holidays.
- $1000 donated to Ocean Cure as well as our volunteers who swept the Beach Access Mats each Wednesday night at the Boardwalk.
- $7000 + raised from the IM Hosting the Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Festival and Regatta, allowing a large donation to be made to Step Up for Soldiers.
- Flags Over Pleasure Island - over 250 customers and over 20 volunteers to set our out flags on each designated Holiday.
- And many more opportunities and donations made.
These are some of the highlights as I see them for The Island Men in 2019, and it has been my honor, with the guidance of the Board of Directors, to be a part of the Leadership Team that has helped guide and nurture our growth and continued contribution. Our mission continues to be "Helping those in need within our community, while contributing to the overall quality of life for our families and neighbors".
Wishing each of you and your families a very Happy and Safe Holiday Season, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I look forward to seeing each and every member in 2020 and to your continued contribution to our success.
Kind Regards and Thank You,
Roy Lee Carter
