SUMMARY:Little Pink Houses of Hope
DESCRIPTION:Every spring the Little Pink Houses of Hope hosts a weeklong retreat on Pleasure Island for families who have a member battling breast cancer.  The Island Men have been and continue to be a proud partner on this endeavor.  Through the strength of our membership along with the kindness and generosity of many in our community we are happy to organize activities that allow us to share our lifestyle with the visiting families.  The simple act of providing a few meals\, throwing lines in the water in hopes of landing a fish and experiencing the undemanding leisure that comes with seeing a beautiful sunset has helped us provide moments for families to relax\, unwind and reconnect in a difficult time. Little Pink Houses are moving forward with 15-20 families hosting this year on Pleasure Island and 80 people in the week of April 13th.  The Island Men will host a day of fishing for family member at the Kure Beach Pier followed by a lunch in the Kure Beach Pavilion\, additionally there is will a beach sunset cruise followed by a cook-out.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Each boat supports 10 paddlers and 1 drummer. Teams can also have up to 4 alternates. The racecourse will be 300 meters in the Carolina Beach Yacht Basin. The Friday night outdoor concert will be held inside the Seawitch Cafe and Tiki Bar. \n   \nThe Island Men is a 501.c.3 non-profit organization whose mission is to as a volunteer organization is to raise money that supports local charities and strengthens our community through the participation in local civic\, educational and athletic projects that enhance the quality of life in our community. The proceeds of this year’s Regatta benefit Ocean Cure and the Island Men Charities and Children’s Educational\, Civic and Athletic Activities we support. \nOcean Cure is a 501c3 non-profit organization based out of Carolina Beach\, NC. It is our mission to provide increased beach accessibility to our coast\, and to help improve the quality of life for our participants through surfing. For more than ten years we have served over a thousand participants and their families with a number of life challenges and disabilities through the use of beach wheelchairs\, accessible flooring\, and adaptive surf boards. There is no beach that we cannot make accessible. And we want to make sure that our participants leave understanding that there is no obstacle that they cannot overcome. \n

Contact Steve Reavis 954-658-7343. \nThe Island Men is an all-volunteer 501.c.3 non-profit group of local men whose broader purpose is to increase camaraderie amongst the men of Pleasure Island and the surrounding area by helping local charities through our fundraising efforts. We are also organized to strengthen our community through participation in community projects to help improve the quality of life for our fellow residents and those who visit our island. The Island Men currently awards five $1000 dollar scholarships to individuals in our area who are attending an accredited program of higher education through a 529 program that we established in 2020. In 2021\, we had 22 quality applications from which we chose five individuals to receive scholarships. The hope is to raise money through the golf tournament\, with the help of our sponsors\, local businesses and your participation to enable even more individuals to reach their goal of obtaining higher education.
